DVDFab Blu-ray Copy is a specialized Blu-ray burning software package that excels in Blu-ray Disc backup and duplication. It is capable of decrypting and ripping Blu-ray Discs in addition to burning them. It is somewhat difficult to navigate, but it has broad support for Blu-ray and DVD. Despite its complex navigation, its decryption power and perfect feature set win DVDFab our TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award.
DVDFab's copy quality is respectable, coming out slightly ahead of the average with a Blu-ray that nearly matched the original. We saw a slight degradation in quality, but it won't affect your ability to enjoy your favorite movies. However, given how long it takes DVDFab to complete a burned copy of a Blu-ray, we expected a higher-quality result.
DVDFab requires about 255 minutes to burn all 25 gigabytes of a typical Blu-ray Disc. That equals about 10.2 minutes for each gigabyte and about 2 megabytes per second. To burn an entire Blu-ray movie (not counting the time it would take to rip), DVDFab takes approximately 4 hours and 25 minutes, which is on the slow side. Other Blu-ray burning software packages are capable of much faster burns. On the other hand, there are slower options out there as well.
When it comes to ripping DVDs and Blu-ray, DVDFab is a wizard. It has all the essential tools for decrypting even the most heavily protected files. It can burn them to disc images on the hard drive for easy copying, and it can copy the entire disc or just parts.
Although it produces play-ready discs, this does not apply to home videos. Only copied DVD and Blu-Ray Discs are ready to play from the moment they pop out of the burner. That means you will not be able to create backup discs or high-def home videos that you can watch on a HDTV.
DVDFab cannot author Blu-ray menus or burn unique content to a high-capacity optical disk, but it does feature killer decryption support. If you want to make hard copies of your Blu-ray movies, this application has the tools required to bypass the encryption that would otherwise prevent you from making a copy of the original disc. The ripper feature is rigorous. You can choose to transfer the entire disc or just the movie (leaving out the menu and special features). Dolby surround-sound tracks and 3D videos are fully extractable.
DVDFab also boasts a unique video conversion feature. It is not especially useful for burning Blu-ray Discs, but if you ever encounter a video formatting problem, it could certainly come in handy. Video conversions require only three clicks. Other welcome features integrated into this Blu-ray burning software package include the following:
The application itself looks easy to navigate at first, but actually getting things to work is a challenge. The left side of the screen features a list of basic functions for DVD and Blu-ray, which is self-explanatory and easy to understand. But after you click on one of the options, you might feel lost about where to go next. The Source and Target text fields, for example, are not selectable, which is highly confusing. Furthermore, the application has support for ISO and MINISO files, but we were unable to locate any method for creating these files until we consulted the online FAQs.
We didn't encounter any spontaneous shutdowns while we tested the software, but many of the features were difficult to use, and some didn't work at all (such as the data disc burn.) For the software to be considered truly stable, these features would have to be reliable all the time.
Installation was very easy because the download file is small —only 18.5 MB. We timed the installation speed and the application was ready to go after only 21 seconds. Be aware that the installer will request a computer restart before you use the software. If you're a trigger happy with the next button, don't be surprised when the computer shuts down on its own.
DVDFab doesn't provide an email address , but you can fill out an online form with your question and Fengtao will email a response. If you have a problem, it is likely that you can find the answer in the FAQs on the manufacturer's website.
DVDFab Blu-ray Copy is great for Blu-ray duplication. It features some of the the best Blu-ray decryption available on the market. The software can be somewhat difficult to use and a bit unpredictable, but if you want to back up your high-def movie library, this Blu-ray burning software is the way to go.
Pros
DVDFab features a unique 3D ripper and powerful decryption capabilities.
Cons
The procedure for burning a data disc is very confusing.
We like DVDFab for the unique feature set, including 3D capabilities and a video conversion feature.
